Emma Samuelson ’19 Selected as Finalist for IHSMTA Award

As it has done in the past, Loyola Academy participated in Broadway in Chicago’s Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards (IHSMTA) this year.  Fifty schools across Illinois entered the competition in which high school musicals are adjudicated and actors from each show are nominated to represent Illinois in the National Awards. For the first time, a Loyola Academy student has been chosen to compete in the Illinois finals ceremony.
From all the nominees, twelve male students and twelve female students were selected to compete in an Illinois finals ceremony. Emma Samuelson ’19 has been selected as one of the twelve female finalists in Illinois based on her portrayal of Jo March in the spring musical Little Women.

Samuelson will participate in a 2-day intensive and perform at the finals ceremony on June 4 at the Broadway Playhouse downtown. From the twenty-four nominees, the Best Actor and Best Actress award recipients will be announced on that day. The winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to participate in a performance enrichment program and represent the state of Illinois at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards on Broadway.

Congratulations, Emma, and break a leg!
