With joyful hearts full of hope and gratitude, we join the universal Church in prayer for our newly elected Holy Father, Robert Francis Prevost, OSA, who has chosen the pontifical name of Pope Leo XIV. Born in Chicago in 1955, Pope Leo XIV is the first American-born pope in the history of the Catholic Church, making this a moment of profound significance for the faithful in the United States and around the world.
A member of the Order of Saint Augustine, Pope Leo XIV has devoted his life to the Gospel through service, leadership, and a deep commitment to mission. Before his election to the papacy, he served the Church as a missionary in Peru, as Prior General of the Augustinians, and most recently as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, bringing pastoral wisdom and global experience to his new role.
Let us pray for Pope Leo: that he leads with a servant's heart, is rooted in Christ's love, and inspires all of us to deepen our faith and respond generously to the call to be Women and Men for Others. As he begins his sacred ministry as the 267th successor of St. Peter, may Pope Leo XIV be a beacon of Christ's love in a world that longs for peace, unity, and truth.
