In February 2019, the Society of Jesus put forth the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs). Fr. General Arturo Sosa, SJ, speaks of the UAPs as "...[Giving] a horizon, a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus. They capture our imagination and awaken our desires. They unite us in our mission. The new preferences are four areas vital for our world today..."

The Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs)

List of 4 items.

  • Showing the way to God

Show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment
  • Walking with the Excluded

Walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice
  • Journeying with Youth

Accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future
  • Caring for our Common Home

Collaborate, with Gospel depth, for the protection and renewal of God's creation
The UAPs will animate the work of all Jesuit works over the next ten years. The Preferences are inspiring our work at Loyola Academy as we strive to help our students discern their vocation as women and men for others. We are missioned to move to the margins to be in relationship with the excluded, to be beacons of hope, co-laboring to care for our common home.

Loyola Academy looks to build upon the many ways in which we are already living out each preference.
