Honors Orchestra
Auditioned | Honors credit
As the most advanced orchestra class available at Loyola Academy, this course is designed to teach students higher-level literature. Admittance is by audition only, and space is limited based upon instrumentation. This class will introduce students to diverse styles of music, higher-level playing techniques, refined musical expression, and various performance experiences in chamber music settings. Honors Orchestra students perform at important events, competitions, and festivals.
Beginning Instrumental
This full-year, entry-level course is designed for students interested in playing violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students will learn the basic string playing technique, note reading, and rehearsal skills in preparation to join the Loyola Academy Symphony Orchestra the following year. This class is open to all grade levels; no prior musical experience is necessary. If you ever wanted to play a string instrument and be part of a large group, you could register for the Beginning Instrumental class.
Private Violin/Viola Lessons
Loyola Academy hosts professional upper-string teachers who offer students private lessons on campus during their free periods. Lessons can help students prepare for auditions, build confidence, and develop their skills as soloists and ensemble performers. They include developing technique, broadening performance styles, building appropriate solo repertoire, and musical instruction, all of which contribute to the student's personal growth and development.
