Loyola's Caroline Hewitt '28 qualified for the IHSA State Tournament with a third-place finish at the Glenbrook South Sectional. The top four singles players and doubles teams from each sectional advanced to state.
Loyola Academy finished in third place at the Glenbrook South Sectional on Thursday and Friday last week. The Ramblers were highlighted by sophomore Caroline Hewitt '28, who placed third in singles and qualified for the state tournament, which starts Thursday, October 23. In the third-place match against Rolling Meadows, Hewitt was down a set and at 0-3 in the second before mounting an impressive comeback, winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The Loyola Academy Girls' Varsity Tennis Team continued its impressive run of success, capturing the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) Championship for the second consecutive year. Entering the tournament as defending champions, the Ramblers delivered a strong all-around performance to once again claim the top spot in the standings.
Congrats to the Ramblers on first place at Jacobs. Sophomore Caroline Hewitt went 4-0 on the weekend picking up two wins at #1 singles and two wins at number one doubles. Junior Ainsley Schachman and senior Lizzie Baskfield were impressive at doubles finishing the weekend 3-1 leading the Ramblers to victory.
Congratulations to Molly Minahan, Ava Bongiovani, Poppy Callahan, Emilia Nelson, Kate Davis, Anita Hrvojevic, and Anabelle Hewitt on winning their first Varsity tennis matches! Way to go Ramblers!
