Morgan C. Baskfield

(St. Francis Xavier - Wilmette)
A four-year member and now senior leader of the Clavius Scholars Honors Program, a National Honor Society member who is dedicated to service work like ACT tutoring and serving as co-president on the Lurie Children's Bridges Dance Marathon board, and a member of the French National Honors Society who taught herself how to play guitar, Morgan C. Baskfield proves that you can have it all—if you're willing to work for it. "Loyola and my experience here has helped me develop my talents because I am constantly challenged and intellectually stimulated by incredible teachers and endless resources," she says. "My teachers at Loyola have always been on my team and have never failed to help me to fully grasp concepts and gain confidence. At Loyola, you don't just learn for the sake of learning. You learn to understand, and accumulate knowledge and skills that will be helpful in the future." When she isn’t tutoring refugee children or volunteering at a men's shelter on the north side of Chicago through Loyola's Arrupe Program, Morgan likes to run (she’' completed the Chicago Rock and Roll half marathon) and read nonfiction. "I enjoy learning about the world around me,” she notes. It comes as no surprise, then, that her favorite class at Loyola was AP Human Geography with Mr. Masello. “I loved learning about the patterns of society around the globe and about how urban design, agriculture, religion, and demographics differ between the regions of the world.” And when she isn’t running or reading or studying or volunteering, you might find her serving up smoothie bowls and cold pressed juices at Hometown Juice and Coffee in Glencoe. A summer course in global history at Northwestern University this past summer solidified her interest in history and economics, which is what Morgan plans to study in college. She sees herself attending business school and working in finance.
