Who can benefit?

Strong reading, writing, study, executive-function, critical-thinking and self-advocacy skills are critical to the success of every Rambler. The O'Shaughnessy Program serves Loyola Academy freshmen and sophomores who would benefit from additional support and instruction in these areas to succeed in a rigous, Jesuit, college preparatory environment.
Admission to this mandatory academic support program is based on a astudent's entrance exam scores, junior high standardized test scores and junior high academic performance. Incoming O'Shaughnessy Scholars are required to successfully complete a summer school Literacy and Learning course prior to their freshman year. This will allow us to learn about students as readers, writers and learners in order to confirm placement in the program. Eligible students are automatically enrolled in the O'Shaughnessy Program upon admission to Loyola Academy. Students in need of continuing support will be re-enrolled in the O'Shaughnessy Program for their sophomore year.
