Absence Policy—Additional Information

Students are allowed eight unexcused absences per class per semester. If a student misses more than twenty minutes of a class, it is considered an absence. Attendance issues should be reported to the Dean's Office by calling (847) 920-2707. Students are allowed to make up missed work or tests from their excused/unexcused absences, with the exception of truancies.
Once a student reaches five unexcused absences in a single class in a semester, an email will be sent to the parents/guardians to make them aware of their student’s attendance record. At the seventh absence, a call will be made to the parent/guardian, and the student will meet with their assigned Dean. At the eighth absence, the Dean of Students will meet with a parent/guardian and the student. Students who are truant (i.e. "cut") from any one class three times in a semester may be withdrawn from that class with an "F." Students who are truant from a class forfeit the opportunity to receive credit for class work or tests missed, and the teacher will not extend help or supervision.

Please note there has been a change to the way absences appear in onCampus. Absences that count toward the eight unexcused absences appear as "Unexcused" on your student's dashboard. This change allows for improved tracking, and also helps to keep you and your student aware of his/her attendance record.  Loyola Academy attendance records do not appear on final transcripts.

Parents/guardians are required to report student absences, late arrivals and early dismissals to the Dean's Office between 7:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on the day of the absence. A phone call is required for each day of the absence. The telephone number of the Dean's/Attendance Office is 847.920.2707. Doctor's notes should be turned in within 48 hours of a student's absence. They may be turned in to the Dean's Office by the student, faxed directly to the Dean's Office at 847.920.2401, or emailed to mlatorraca@loy.org or plewandowski@loy.org.

Please note, students arriving late are required to report to the Dean's Office before going to class. Students leaving early from school must report to the Dean's Office before departing as well.

If you have questions, please contact Dean of Students Alexandra Cruz at acruz@loy.org.
