James L. Mooney '24 (1985)

Football

"Big Jim" Mooney was the outstanding member of a trio of athletic brothers at Loyola Academy. He captained the Chicago All-Catholic Football Team in 1923 and holds the record for the longest punt, 85 yards. He was an All-American at Georgetown and played five seasons in the NFL, including 1 season with the Chicago Cardinals. Jim was killed in action in France in 1944.
