Edgar J. Hatney '16 (1985)

Basketball

Ed Hartney played a key role on Coach Trowell's 1916 Championship basketball team. Playing in the old Dumbach Hall gym where one had to avoid hitting the center ceiling beam when passing or shooting, Ed and his teammates compiled a record of 16 and 1. They were named Heavyweight Champs of the city and ushered in Loyola's first successful era of sports. Ed Hartney is joined in memory today by names like Martin, Loftus, Lyman, and McDonough, and he is a fitting representative of their team's accomplishments for the Maroon and Gold.
