Appalachian State is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina. Known for its special combination of people and place, it is one of seventeen campuses in the University of North Carolina system. It strives to be a destination for students who seek academic programs and outdoor recreation that will help them grow into responsible global citizens.

Student Life

In a podcast series called AppX, students share what life at Appalachian State is like including where to eat, the best outdoor activities, App State bucket list and more.
There are thirty-two fraternity and sorority organizations on campus with 2,000 total members.
The Mountaineers compete in the NCAA Division 1 Sun Belt Conference and have 17 varsity sports.
There are many organized outdoor activities including outdoor equipment rental services, an indoor rock climbing wall and Bike App, a university-run service providing bicycle repairs and educational opportunities.
The Blue Ridge Mountains offer skiing, rafting, camping and fishing at the campus’s doorstep.
