John Dwyer III '67, Coach

For John Dwyer III ’67, Loyola Academy has been a defining part of his life—as a student-athlete, alumnus, parent, and legendary girls’ lacrosse coach. A member of the varsity football teams that captured Prep Bowl championships in 1965 and 1966 and a standout swimmer who helped end Fenwick’s long reign as Catholic League champion, John credits Loyola’s teachers, coaches, and Jesuits with shaping the values that guided him throughout his life. Those lessons carried him to Georgetown University, a successful career in financial services, and ultimately back to Loyola, where he has spent more than two decades mentoring young women through athletics.

Since launching the girls’ lacrosse program in 2004, John has built one of the most successful high school programs in the country, leading the Ramblers to multiple state championships, more than 400 victories, and a remarkable tradition of excellence. Yet for John, success has always been about more than wins. He takes greatest pride in the generations of student-athletes who have represented Loyola with humility, determination, and a commitment to serving others. Surrounded by a dedicated coaching staff, supportive families, and many former players who have returned to coach alongside him, John continues to embody the spirit of Loyola Academy—forming young women of character while strengthening a community that has been central to his life for nearly six decades.
