Bryant McCray '12, Alumni

For Bryant McCray ’12, Loyola Academy was the foundation for a life of leadership, storytelling, and service. As a student, Bryant immersed himself in the life of the school through sailing, theater, the African American Youth Group, Kairos, and I-Night. Reflecting on his Loyola experience, he describes the school as “the foundation for a good leader,” a place where leadership skills are instilled through community, challenge, and opportunity. Those experiences helped shape his confidence and reinforced a belief that with hard work and support, students can grow, thrive, and make a meaningful impact on the world around them.

After graduating from Loyola Academy, Bryant attended St. Norbert College and went on to build an award-winning career in broadcast journalism. Following reporting roles in Ohio, including as a news reporter for CBS in Cleveland, he returned to Chicago, where he now serves as a news reporter for WGN-TV. Through his work, Bryant tells stories that inform, connect, and elevate communities—an extension of the values he first developed at Loyola. He remains grateful for the opportunities and support he received as a Rambler and continues to return to Loyola to share his experiences with current students, encouraging the next generation to lead with purpose, perseverance, and gratitude.
