    Results from Girls' Swimming and Diving at State

    Our girls' swimming and diving team excelled at Saturday's IHSA Swimming and Diving State Championships at the FMC Natatorium! The Ramblers placed 13th overall in the state, which is their highest finish since 2016. Greta Kavanagh '24 rose above the competition—posting the sixth-highest all-time score in girls' state meet history with a score of 483.80—to capture the state title and complete her historic undefeated season!

    The Lady Ramblers excelled at this past Saturday’s IHSA Swimming and Diving State Championships at the FMC Natatorium!

    Greta Kavanagh ‘24 rose above the competition posting a score of 483.80 capturing the state title and completed her historic undefeated season! Congrats Greta!!!!
     
    The swimmers made their first splash a memorable one! The 200 Medley Relay Team of (Maria Cheng ’25, Georgia Andrew ’25, Gaby Simon ’26, and Sophia Friestedt ’27) qualifying for finals and placing 13th overall lead by Maria Cheng who posted the fastest 50 Backstroke in the State!
     
    The combination of Reilly O’Hara ‘25 and Zizi Mateja ‘24 got their 1st state meet off to another fast start, placing 15th and 32nd overall respectively. Reilly got the ball rolling qualifying for finals and battled the field tying for 15th in finals!
     
    Sophia Freistedt ‘27 arrived in her first state appearance and raced the competition to a 34th place finish, very impressive from the Rambler Freshmen!
     
    Maria Cheng ’25 went off like a bang in the 100 Butterfly placing 20th overall!
     
    Reilly O’Hara ‘25 and Gaby Simon ‘26 had some more left in the tank crushing the 500 Freestyle. Both ladies dropped significant time placing 11th and 19th overall in prelims. O’Hara continued her meet in finals placing 11th overall for her 2nd individual medal in the meet!
     
    The Relay Team of (Georgia Andrew ’25, Sophia Friestedt ’27, Reilly O’Hara ’25, Zizi Mateja ‘24) continued day with a strong lead out from Georgia Andrew as the team finished 24th overall in the state!
     
    Maria Cheng ‘25 raced to her 3rd finals appearance in the 100 Backstroke placing 7th coming out of prelims and raced to a 6th place finish overall in finals!
     
    The Relay Team of (Reilly O’Hara ’25, Georgia Andrew ’25, Sophia Friestedt ’27, Zizi Mateja ’24) also weren’t done as this 400 Freestyle Relay closed out the day with yet another impressive finish placing 21st in the state!

    The program placed 13th overall with its highest team finish since 2016!
  • Girls' Swimming and Diving Coaches Named Sectional Coaches of the Year

    Each swimming & diving season, the Illinois Swimming & Diving Association (ISDA) sponsors a Sectional Coach of the Year award for a swimming and diving coach from each sectional. Loyola Academy Girls' Swimming and Diving Coaches Greg Hartman and Tony D'Amico were recently named to this honor by a vote of the coaches at their sectional meet. The ISDA will award a certificate to each Coach of the Year at the ISDA All-State Banquet on Sunday, April 14, at the Bolingbrook Country Club.

    Congratulations to the girls’ swimming and diving team, which competed in the IHSA Sectional on Saturday. The team finished in second place with a team score of 218 points! The team qualified in diving, all three relays, and seven individual events for the IHSA state finals.

  • 2023 IHSA Swimming and Diving Sectionals Rambler Recap

    Things got kicked into another stratosphere as Greta Kavanagh ‘24 literally rose above the competition posting a score of 518.90 and won the Sectional! Greta currently sits as the 2nd highest scoring diver in Rambler History on both her 6 and 11 dive performances!
     
    The swimmers made their first splash a memorable one! The 200 Medley Relay Team of (Maria Cheng ’25, Georgia Andrew ’25, Gaby Simon ’26, and Sophia Friestedt ’27) achieved the IHSA State Standard posting a time of 1:45.52, placing 2nd overall. This performance was the 6th fastest performance in Rambler History!
     
    The combination of Reilly O’Hara ‘25 and Zizi Mateja ‘24 got their day off to a very fast start in the 200 Freestyle. Both Ramblers surpassed the IHSA State Standard! O’Hara won the Sectional clocking in at the time of 1:53.19! Mateja from the outside lane further electrified the Ramblers clocking in at the time of 1:55.75, placing 4th overall! Reilly O’Hara rose the charts and is now the 6th fastest performer in Rambler History!
     
    Sophia Freistedt ‘27 arrived in her first sectional appearance in a big way surpassing the IHSA State Standard in the 50 Freestyle! Sophia flew through the competition in the 2nd to last heat in an outside lane and posted the time of 24.14, placing 5th overall! Sophia is now currently the 7th fastest performer in Rambler History!
     
    Maria Cheng ’25 wanted a part of the action as she surpassed the IHSA State Standard in the 100 Butterfly! The underwater specialist did her thing posting a time of 56.81, placing 2nd overall. Maria is now currently the 4th faster performer in Rambler History!
     
    Reilly O’Hara ‘25 and Gaby Simon ‘26 had some unfinished business, and business was good. The dynamic Rambler duo both surpassed the 500 Freestyle IHSA State Standard! Reilly O’Hara once again won the Sectional clocking in the time of 5:06.81! Gaby Simon raced her heart out from and outside lane, while being brought along by her teammates who lined the side, posted the time of 5:12.82! Reilly O’Hara once again writes the history books as she is now the 7th fastest performer in Rambler History!
     
    The Relay Team of (Zizi Mateja ’24, Georgia Andrew ’25, Sophia Friestedt ’27, and Reilly O’Hara ’25) blew the barndoor open! The foursome surpassed the IHSA State Standard in the 200 Freestyle Relay posting a time of 1:37.41, placing 2nd overall!
     
    The Rambler All American wasn’t done with her day as Maria Cheng ‘25 raced to the IHSA State Standard in the 100 Backstroke! Maria raced to a season best time of 56.22, placing 2nd overall, and is ready for the big stage next week at FMC!
     
    The Relay Team of (Reilly O’Hara ’25, Georgia Andrew ’25, Sophia Friestedt ’27, Zizi Mateja ’24) also weren’t done as this 400 Freestyle Relay closed out the day with yet another IHSA State Standard posting a time of 3:34.74!
     
    Without the support of their team many of these performances that surpassed the IHSA Standards may not have been possible. Many other jaw dropping performances further elated an already electric sideline!
     
    Simone Abbasi ‘25 bringing another big bounce for the Ramblers, 14th overall in diving.
    The Simon Sisters (Gaby Simon ’26 & Victoria Simon ’27) in the 200 IM placing 6th and 8th! Naima Prusaitis ‘25 bringing the heat in the 50 Freestyle racing to a 17th place finish!
    Nika Barkmeier ’25 blasting her way through the 100 Butterfly to a 12th place finish!
    Zizi Mateja ’24 and Ava Jefson ’25 excelling through in the 100 Freestyle, placing 4th and 12th!
    Emma Farris ’26 and Victoria Simon ’27 broke their heats in the 100 Breaststroke, 8th and 12th!
     
    When the smoke had cleared, and the water calmed down the Ramblers placed 2nd overall in the IHSA Swimming and Diving Sectional for the 2nd year in a row. The performances drew the attention of many in the stands and on the pool deck and both Tony D’Amico (Diving) and Greg Hartman (Swimming) were honored as the IHSA Sectional Coaches of the Year!

    The Lady Ramblers excelled at this past Saturday’s IHSA Swimming and Diving Sectional hosted at Glenbrook North High School! The Ramblers have their largest team since 2016 moving on to next weekend’s IHSA Swimming and Diving Championships at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont.

    The Lady Ramblers put on quite the show this past weekend at the 2023 MCAC Girls Swimming and Diving Championships. As a team the program truly came together posting countless season, personal, and record-breaking performances. The MCAC features many of the who’s who in Illinois Swimming and Diving. At the competition this past weekend 5 pool records fell along with 3 MCAC Records! Featured below is a Rambler recap of the Top 3 Relays and Top 8 Individuals from last weekend.
     
    Diving started the program off on a high note outscoring the entire field.

    The future of the Lady Ramblers is very bright as our Freshman posted runner up honors at this seasons Hinsdale Freshman Invite. The showed that Rambler pride and focus and it translated to many season best swims!

    Loyola hosted Rosary on their Senior Night and although the Lady Ramblers were unable to come away with a team win there was no shortage of highlights. Greta Kavanagh stole the show by lowering her pool record again and posted unanimous 10's on her final dive of her 6 dive career at Loyola! The evening was another strong display from the Ramblers and will serve as a platform to excel at the MCAC Championships in a week.

    Greta Kavanaugh '24 swept the competition at the Hinsdale Central Diving Invitational, which brought together fifty-four of the state's best divers, on Saturday, October 7. Greta was the individual event champion and, by virtue of her point total, also single handedly won the team event.
