Girls' Basketball State Champs Celebrate 20th Reunion
The 1997 and 1998 girls’ basketball state championship teams celebrated their 20-year reunion earlier this week at Loyola Academy. Teammates joined with former coaches Tanya Johnson and Mary Just in the west gym to mark the occasion.
During the 1996–97 season, the girls' varsity basketball team went 32-2 and defeated Taylorville 59-40 in the state championship. The team was coached by Tanya Johnson, assisted by Mary Just, Kerry Durham and Cindy Cernach:

The 1997 girls’ basketball team was in inducted into Loyola’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
During the 1997–98 season, Loyola went 36–1 and beat East St. Louis (Lincoln) 62-48 to claim its second consecutive state title. The team was coached by Tanya Johnson, assisted by Mary Just, Kerry Durham and Kathy Leyden-Brown:

The 1998 girls’ basketball team was inducted into Loyola’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
Head Coach Tanya Johnson spent ten seasons (1985–94) at Marillac High School before coming to Loyola. At Loyola, Johnson tallied an impressive 116-11 record with the Ramblers during the 1995-98 seasons.
