Loyola Celebrates Spirit Week 2022

This year’s Spirit Week theme, “Rambler Disco,” set the tone for a week of dress-down days with fun themes: “Disco Ball Day” on Monday, “Neon or Tie Dye Day Day” on Tuesday, “Tacky Tourist Day” on Wednesday, “Zoom Business Day” on Thursday, and “Rambler Spirit Deck-Out Day” to close out the week on Friday. Inflatable obstacle courses on the football field, Just Dance in the new theater, Karaoke outside of the McGrath Family Performing Arts Center, and a photo booth were just some of the activities hosted by the Student Activities to energize students throughout the week.
A rousing Rambler pep rally took place in the East Gym on Friday, September 23, and featured the talents of the Ramblerettes, Loyola Cheer, Acafellas and Nothing But Treble, drumline, LA Step Team, Loyola Academy Marching Band, and more. Seniors Lexi Vasilopolous, Will Farrell, and Kyan Gibbs served as emcees. Throughout the hour-long assembly, energy was high as music blared inside the gym and students, sitting in bleachers and on the balcony, cheered on their friends and classmates. Relay races between fall sports teams were a crowd favorite, as were the free t-shirts thrown into stands.

Loyola Academy’s first official mascot, Rowdy the Ramble (pronounced Ram-Bull), debuted at this fall pep rally. And Executive Vice President Dennis Stonequist ’90 revived a beloved Loyola tradition, made popular by former coach and P.E. teacher Stan Brietzamn, as he led Ramblers in chanting “I’ve got that Rambler spirit deep in my heart…”

The rally was dismissed at 2:30 p.m., leading Ramblers into a spirited homecoming weekend. Later that evening, the Class of 2026 danced the night away at the annual Freshman Luau, a Hawaiian-themed party hosted by the student group Insignis. Held outside the McGrath Family Performing Arts Center, Loyola’s newest Ramblers made great memories and bonded with their class.

On Saturday, September 24, the varsity football team took on the Fenwick Friars in an exciting homecoming battle that ended in a 41-7 Loyola victory. The Ramblers are now 5-0 this season, and continue to build momentum.

Donned in their semi-formal wear, sophomores, juniors, and seniors returned to campus on Saturday evening to celebrate the close of Spirit Week with a beautiful homecoming dance in the East Gym.

Homecoming 2022 was a wonderful week for Loyola students, faculty, and staff! We acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the Student Activities Office in organizing and preparing so many wonderful events and activities.
