Academic Jumpstart Program Preps Freshmen for Success

Loyola Academy welcomed over 140 incoming freshmen on Monday, August 16, to Academic Jumpstart. This free, two-hour tune-up session was offered to all members of the Class of 2025 and focused on setting students up for success as they begin their high school journeys.
Presenters included Dr. Tina Melstrom (Languages), Mr. Mark McGuire (Social Studies), Mr. Phil Nieman (Mathematics), and Mrs. Molly Harris (O’Shaughnessy). Topics ranged from how to navigate Loyola's learning management system "OnCampus” to tips on time management, limiting distractions, strategies for annotating and processing information and more.

“Because incoming freshmen in the Class of 2025 are coming to us from over one hundred different grade schools and because they are all coming off a pandemic year, we wanted to provide an opportunity for our newest students to get off on the right foot,” explains Assistant Principal for Student Success Mr. Chris Penna. “Developing and practicing these core academic skills will be critical and it will be a focus of ours this year.”

To support students academically, Loyola has launched an Academic Drop-In Center, where peer tutors and others will be available to assist their fellow Ramblers. Additional skill development programming will be offered throughout the year, Penna says. To learn more about academic resources at Loyola, click here
