Rambler Alumni among 2021 Midwest Jesuit Ordinands

We congratulate two Loyola Academy alumni who were ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 12, at Church of the Gesu in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fr. Thomas A. Bambrick, SJ, ’99 will serve as director of Jesuit mission and identity at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Twin Cities. Fr. Hung T. Nguyen, SJ, ’06 will be missioned to serve as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Parish in El Paso, Texas. Also ordained were Frs. Aaron Malnick, SJ, and Jeffrey Sullivan, SJ, who both completed their regencies teaching Theology at Loyola. Our continued prayers are with Thomas, Hung, Aaron and Jeffrey as they begin this next chapter.
As a Jesuit novice, Thomas, an Evanston native, engaged in ministry with immigrants and incarcerated youth in Minneapolis and with college students and those experiencing homlessnes in Detroit. While studying philosophy and theology at Fordham University in the Bronx, he did pastoral work in a hospital and a retirement center. For regency, Thomas was a part of the founding staff at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Milwaukee. Here, he taught theology and helped design the Ignatian formation program for students. And, while completing a Master of Divinity at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, Thomas offered spiritual direction, served as a deacon at St. Patrick Parish in Oakland and was a member of the leadership team of the Jesuit Anti-Racism Sodality (JARS). Hung was born in Vietnam and immigrated to Chicago in 1998. As a novice, he was sent on experiments to Seattle, Indianapolis, Detroit and Peru and was then missioned to study philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. During this time, he spent a year studying abroad at the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies in China. For regency, Hung taught at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and accompanied migrants on the U.S.-Mexico border with the Kino Border Initiative. He then spent three years studying theology in Mexico City and Bogotá, Colombia, where he was involved in spiritual direction ministry for the students at Colegio San Bartolomé La Merced. Back in the United States, Hung completed a Master of Divinity degree at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. As a deacon, he served at the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Community of Divine Mercy Parish in Oakland, California. Learn more about Hung’s journey here.
