2021 National Latin Exam Results

Eleven Ramblers received awards for their outstanding achievement on the 2021 National Latin Exam (NLE) this spring.
The exam, sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League, is a 40-question, multiple-choice test with a time limit of 45 minutes. The exams are not based on any specific textbook series, but include general questions on grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography and reading comprehension passages (prose and poetry) for upper levels.

The NLE is not meant to be a competition but rather an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates, medals and may even qualify for scholarships.

While the exam is offered annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world, Loyola Academy Latin Teacher Amanda Pagnotta explains that this year’s exam was made available to sophomores, juniors and seniors on a voluntary basis due to the challenges of the ongoing pandemic. “Those who participated received some awards and did us proud,” she says.
