Loyola Academy Presents "57th National Mathlete Sum-It" Virtual Spring Musical

Loyola Academy's Department of Performing Arts and Thespian Troupe 4729 performed the virtual musical “57th National Mathlete Sum-It” on April 15–18. The story follows an almost all-girl high school math team from Waukesha, Wisconsin, as it competes in the National Math SUM-IT. These smart and funny whiz kids must unite to solve difficult math problems without getting distracted by teen drama and pressures.
Always witty, sometimes uproarious, this is a story of girls becoming women—conquering anxiety and rivalry, finding a way to affirm themselves as individuals and as team-members, learning to win at math…and at life.

The musical was streamed live at 7:00 p.m. on April 15–18 and tickets were available for purchase on a sliding scale fee from $0–$20. “It is important for all to experience and celebrate the arts,” the Theater Program said in a statement. “We ask families to pay what they can. If you have the ability to pay full price, please do so. And if you have the means to contribute more, any additional dollars will help to offset the cost for those who are financially burdened at this time.” To ensure the show was viewed live, no video recording of the production was made.

“Changing rehearsal schedules and having to learn portions of the show online could have easily derailed this production and overall company morale,” reflects Student Director Meghan Oeste ’21. “However, this group stuck through it, and I’m extremely proud of how we bonded together to make our final product!”

The lead cast members were split by day:
  • students with last names A–K performed on April 15 and April 17
  • students with last names L–Z performed on April 16 and April 18
  • the ensemble cast performed every day

Congratulations to the cast, crew and production staff who worked tirelessly to bring this wonderful story to the Loyola community!
