Family Mass and Day of Service

On Sunday, March 21, Loyola Academy parents and students participated in the annual Family Mass and Day of Service, sponsored by the Rambler Parent Organization (RPO). Loyola Academy President Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, presided over a virtual Mass before participants set to work on projects that enabled them to answer the call to serve others.
Families had the opportunity to sign up for six activities—many of which were from home—such as preparing brown bag lunches, assembling medical and toiletry kits, purchasing college-bound bag items via an Amazon wishlist and delivering lunches and socks at designated locations. Following the virtual Mass, nearly sixty volunteers gathered at Loyola to assemble thirty-three college bound bags and medical & toiletry kits to benefit Loyola’s own Bowman Scholars

In addition, over 800 brown bag lunches and 200 socks were delivered to five local charities including Connections for the Homeless in Evanston, Cornerstone Community Outreach in Chicago, The Chicago Help Initiative, Night Ministry in Chicago and The Chapel Community Care Center in Mundelein. Notably, Father McGrath blessed the items before they were delivered.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful day! We are especially grateful to our dedicated Event Chairs Kim Hand and Margie Koerner and RPO Spiritual Chairs Andrea Macina and Lori Benevenuto for putting this event together and continuing its success throughout the years.
