Study Break with Honors American Literature

Taking a break from their study of Amanda Gorman’s poem “The Hill We Climb,” Mrs. Stacey Zupec’s sixth period Honors American Literature class recently ended the school day with a fun hybrid dance off. Students in section A-K participated from home while students in section L-Z were in the classroom. The result? “A-K won for best team collaboration and L-Z won for best dance moves,” says Mrs. Zupec. “We love connecting to music in this class, and it was a fun way to wrap up the week.”
Zupec, who often plays music to energize students as they come into her classroom, used a mashup from TikTok for the dance off between the two sections of her class. “This came about because each side of the alpha-split is constantly in competition over which can score better, participate more, etc.,” she explains. “They were excited and it was just some Friday fun, but we have also been connecting poems to music.” In one of Zupec’s recent lessons, students compared and contrasted Langston Hughes’ “Let America Be America Again'' with Beyonce’s “Freedom.”
