Athletic Letter of Intent February Signing Ceremony

On Wednesday, February 3, Loyola Academy Vice President of Athletics and Fitness Genevieve Atwood honored seventeen Rambler student-athletes at the February National Letter of Intent Signing Day Ceremony. Congratulations to the following student-athletes and their parents!
Baseball
Sean Baum, North Central College
“Sean is a hard-working multi-sport athlete, who excels on both the baseball diamond and the football field. Even after fighting through injuries and the pandemic, Sean's commitment to North Central proves his dedication and his work ethic. I am so proud that Sean will be the third Rambler in uniform at North Central Baseball!”
Coach Chris Ackels

Daniel Reischl, University of Wisconsin- Lacrosse
“Daniel is a three-year letter-winner at Loyola, and has been a key part of the Rambler pitching staff. He goes above and beyond as a teammate, and he has put in extra work outside of practice to hone his craft. I am so proud of Daniel's hard work, and he will become the third Rambler on the roster at UW-LaCrosse!”
Coach Chris Ackels

Basketball
Arielle Dabu, Florida Southern College
“One word to describe Arielle is PASSION. She is an athlete who will eat, sleep, and breathe the game of basketball; therefore she has paved her personal path for success. Arielle's work ethic is second to none. She will work, repeat, and work harder to get to that next level. She has shown grit, power, focus and most importantly optimism...Arielle always believes we will prevail. She has supported her teammates along the journey which is what has made Arielle's journey so special.”
Coach Jeremy Schoenceker

Nyah Moore, Case Western Reserve
“Nyah’s calm demeanor changes to aggressive when she gets on the basketball court. Nyah has played on the varsity team for 3 years and her aggressiveness has been outstanding.  Nyah leads by example and is a natural goal setter. With a ton of sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears, Nyah has earned every minute on the court because of her resilience. Her huge heart and care for her teammates has been the glue for this team. These special qualities will take her far in her career at Case Western Reserve University!”
Coach Jeremy Schoenecker

Isabella Ogliore, DePauw University
“Izzy has probably been the hardest working athlete we have ever coached here at Loyola Academy. Her constant desire to be better is extraordinary. Her inner drive to compete is something that is uplifting. Nothing compares to Izzy's will to win. Her powerful and dynamic play is something we have been blessed to have for 4 years. Izzy's teammates know that she will consistently give 100% every day, every practice, every game, no matter what. That consistency allows Izzy to dream big and conquer any endeavor in her future... and that future is VERY bright. DePauw University is very lucky to have her!”
Coach Jeremy Schoenecker

Summer Parker-Hall, Cornell University
“Summer has been part of the varsity team for 3 years and every year she has had an infectious competitive spirit. She has not only shown her teammates how to win, she has brought them along for the ride. Her competitive spirit matched with her natural ability to play the game of basketball is what has given Summer so much success. She is a natural vocal leader and her ability to make quick decisions in the heat of competition is something Cornell will enjoy having. Summer is a supportive teammate and more importantly shows pride in herself, her team and her school.”
Coach Jeremy Schoenecker

Silvana Scarsella, Loras University
“Silvana has brought energy and leadership to the varsity squad the day she stepped on the court. Her tenacity and self-discipline has been inspiring to her teammates. Sil's confidence on the court made a difference in our close games; when Sil was in control, her teammates rose to the occasion. Sil is a true leader. She has been an instrumental part of this program and we have been blessed to have coached her. Her passion to compete will be a gift for the Loras Duhawks!
Coach Jeremy Schoenecker

Football
Aidan Brownlee, Denison University
“Anyone familiar with the Loyola football program in recent years knows about Aiden's outstanding playmaking ability. What many people may not know, however, is the fact Aiden is one of the most intelligent football players in our program. From day one as a sophomore he was prepared mentally to play varsity football, something rarely accomplished at Loyola Academy. His work ethic in the weight room, understanding our offensive playbook, and his god given ability, has led to his great success. I know he will continue being that playmaker at Denison, where we expect to see Aiden early and often in his career.”
Coach John Holecek

Conor Clyde, University of Dayton
“Conor is a long, smart, and athletic offensive lineman very suitable for pass protection (also pitches for the baseball team). Conor played right tackle in 2019, but projected to start at left tackle this year. His tremendous offseason has him weighing close to 270 pounds which is around a 50 lb gain, a heavy evidence of how much he cares about helping his team and his college career. Dayton is getting a large, intimidating man, but also someone of great character, quiet confidence, and humility.”
Coach John Holecek

Jason Kusibab, Rhodes College
“Jason is a two-sport athlete who has the intelligence, focus, and athletic ability to multi-task very well. He will need those attributes as he plays football and possibly baseball in the highly academic world of Rhodes College the next four years. Jason brings a powerful punch, great instincts, and a lead by example attitude to his team. He will no doubt be another impactful inside linebacker at Loyola Academy who will be all over the field this spring.”
Coach John Holecek

Braden Mullen, Dartmouth College
“Braden is a highly motivated, athletic, and intelligent linebacker who can play in space and be physical enough to dominate at the line of scrimmage. Because of his physical and mental attributes he is relied on for pass coverage, run support, and he is also a disruptive pass rusher. His dominant performance junior year (while also excelling at baseball) is just the start for Braden because his potential is off the charts. Truly a recruiting gem for the Dartmouth coaches, Braden will be a great competitor and a leader in the Ivy League for the next four years.”
Coach John Holecek

Nate Van Zelst, University of Wisconsin
“Nate is a once in a lifetime type of talent that we might never see again at Loyola Academy. Nate has kicked in state championships both freshman and sophomore year, contributing to the 13 to 3 win in 2018. His talents and more importantly, his unmatched professionalism and demeanor have given him the respect of all who see him work at his craft. And work is exactly how he became a Big Ten kicker. Whether clearing snow on the field in the middle of winter, or alone on the football field at the end of summer day, Nate gets his work done. In fact all of the security guards at Loyola are familiar with Nate and rooting for him, because he was a constant presence at LA, including some odd hours... constantly honing his skills on the field. The Badgers got a real pro.”
Coach John Holecek

Soccer
Mario Hrvojevic, Hope College
“We are incredibly proud of Mario for earning his commitment to play collegiate soccer at Hope. Over the past four years (including three years on our varsity team), Mario has completely dedicated himself to self and team improvement. His quiet yet determined attitude has helped improve the Loyola Academy Boys Soccer program day in and day out. We look forward to watching him take his game to the next level and following his growth in the collegiate game. Congrats to Mario on his well-deserved accomplishment!”
Coach Baer Fisher

Swimming
Michael “Step” Flanagan, Colorado College
“Step is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever coached. His amazing improvement is a testament to the work he has put in the last 4 years. Starting on the JV team and quickly ascending to be one of the best swimmers on the team, Step has led through example of what it takes to succeed in our sport. Step was an incredibly valuable member of our 2nd place team finish at the 2020 state meet after qualifying in the 100 free and anchoring our 200 Medley relay.”
Coach Mike Hengelmann

Aidan Hulseman, John Carroll University
“Aidan will proudly follow in the footsteps of other family members in continuing his swimming career at John Carroll University. Aidan has battled back from injury early in his high school career to become one of the strongest distance swimmers in our program. Aidan brings a tenacity to his swimming and a very humorous demeanor that lifts everyone up at practice.”
Coach Mike Hengelmann

Madelyn Reed, Case Western Reserve
“A True Rambler, always the “we before me”, team captain, pool record holder, and a heart of gold. I have all the confidence she will bring with her the expertise, dedication, and team first attitude to Case Western. She will be a tremendous asset to the team As she was for Loyola Academy during her 4 years.” Coach Greg Hartman

Volleyball
Marissa Lynch, John Carroll University
“Marissa is often quiet and more reserved off the court but once she steps onto the court she is focused and ready to take on any opponent. She has the ability to hit the ball down the line unlike any player I have coached and is always finding ways to make her teammates smile and laugh, even in tense situations. She has grown a lot since her junior year and I cannot wait to see the impact she will have on our team this spring! I am so excited she will continue her volleyball career at John Carroll University next year!”
Coach Mallory Thelander.
