Student Activities Offers Programming to Foster Community

Loyola's Student Activities Office has been hard at work developing programs and activities to continue its mission of fostering community among students despite the challenges of the times and the unique hybrid schedule.
In lieu of the annual Cocurricular Fair, where new students typically fill the East Gym to browse rows of creative table displays and learn about Loyola’s clubs, Student Activities hosted the fair virtually in the beginning of September. Student leaders created promotional videos for their clubs which were shared with all students on the Student Activities’ Instagram page. Ms. Melissa Krein, director of student activities, reports that clubs enthusiastically participated; fifty seven of Loyola's seventy six clubs submitted a video to recruit new members!

A survey conducted by Student Activities during orientation week asked students to indicate their preference for events and activities this year. A frequent request was for more "get to know you" activities that would allow for students to "meet" other Ramblers during e-learning.

Students participated in Zoom in activities such as "Five Finger Showdown" and a virtual scavenger hunt helped students learn more about each other and build bonds.

A salty vs. sweet snack competition on Instagram brought the student body together in a fun and competitive way. Students filled out a March Madness-style bracket of their favorite snacks and then voted via Instagram.

And Student Activities has plenty more in store—stay tuned for updates on Spirit Week 2020, Hispanic Heritage Month and more!
