Senior Named Recipient of Computer Science Award

The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) has named Grace Couture ’20 as a 2020 recipient of the Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC). The award honors 9th-12th grade students for their computing-related achievements and interests and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education.
“I am so proud of her. She really deserved this award,” says Mathematics Teacher and Women in Stem Club Moderator Mrs. Anita Debarlaben, who nominated Grace for the prestigious award. In 2019, Grace created an interactive Earth Day app for the Loyola Academy community that can be viewed here.

Grace was honored at the first-ever virtual event honoring all 2020 Aspirations in Computing award recipients on Saturday, May 30. Guests heard from keynote speaker Limor Fried, founder of Adafruit, a 100-percent woman-owned company founded in 2005 to create the best place online for learning electronics. A panel of past award recipients including Courtney Thurston, KeeAnia Kinkacha, Caeley Looney, and Anna Resnick was also a part of the celebration to recognize the 2020 award recipients.

Congratulations to Grace on this wonderful achievement!
