Chris Ackels Named Head Varsity Boys’ Baseball Coach

Loyola Academy Vice President for Athletics and Fitness Mrs. Genevieve Atwood recently announced that Mr. Chris Ackels has accepted the position of head varsity boys’ baseball coach.  Mr. Ackels is currently a faculty member in Loyola’s English department and is a familiar face to many of the baseball families as he has served as Loyola's sophomore head coach and freshman head coach and has been involved in the baseball summer program.
Mr. Ackels is a 2009 graduate of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and a 2013 graduate of Saint Louis University. He holds a master’s of arts in English from DePaul University. In addition to teaching and coaching, Mr. Ackels coordinates Loyola’s popular intramural sports program.

“I am grateful to the baseball program search committee, led by Associate Athletic Director Mr. Jeremy Schoenecker, for its leadership and commitment throughout the search process,” commented Atwood. “Coach Ackels captured the committee with his passion for baseball and knowledge of the game and also with his commitment to Jesuit education and forming young men through athletics. He was the unanimous choice.

The team's enthusiastic response to the news affirmed the committee's decision.  I think the cheers were heard all the way to Lake Avenue!”

This spring will mark Mr. Ackels’s fifth year with Rambler baseball. Prior to Loyola, he coached at Marquette University High School in Milwaukee and St. Patrick High School in Chicago.
