Alumni Connect at Santa Clara University

In May, Loyola Academy President Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, and Vice President for Alumni and Network Engagement Marty Jennings '98 visited Rambler alumni who are now studying at, or recently graduated from, Santa Clara, a Jesuit university in Silicon Valley. The trip provided an opportunity for members of Loyola's senior leadership to stay connected with California-based young alumni and gauge the region's interest in hosting future President's Leadership Council (PLC) events.
"Our visit to Santa Clara aligned with the engagement strategy of our strategic vision for alumni relations," explains Jennings. "Loyola strives to be a hub for our alumni at each stage of their lives, and the connections made in high school, college, and beyond are vital to the ongoing networking opportunities we are striving to provide."

“Having Fr. McGrath visit Santa Clara spoke volumes to me,” shares Marina Schmitz ’15, a recent Santa Clara grad who was proud to represent her university and what she has achieved since her days at Loyola. “It demonstrated how much he wants to see all of his students succeed and cares to connect with them even if we are located halfway across the country.”

The group gathered for Mass at the historic Mission Santa Clara de Asís, which was founded in 1777 and now serves as the university's primary chapel. Dinner followed at Mio Vicino where the group enjoyed friendly conversation about their days at the Academy, current happenings at Loyola, and the importance of staying connected.

“Having Fr. McGrath come to Santa Clara for Mass and dinner reminded me of the presence that Loyola has at SCU and in my life even though I have graduated,” says Camryn Fischer ’18, who found the visit with Loyola leaders and other alumni comforting. “Meeting for Mass and talking during dinner reminded me of all the people on campus that I could go to if I need something as well as the role Loyola continues to play in my life even though I am across the country.”

Back home, Camryn’s mother Mrs. Julie Fischer expressed a similar appreciation for Loyola’s supportive network. “I feel a profound sense of gratitude for the care that Loyola has for its alumni and for building up the Rambler community near and far. Feeling connected is so important!”

Jennings shared that a future vision aims to connect San Francisco area Loyola alumni with those currently studying at Santa Clara, building a model of alumni engagement that is rooted at Loyola and can be expanded to Loyola alumni at other Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States.
