Panel Series Celebrates Women's History Month

Loyola Academy celebrated Women’s History Month with a series of panels featuring current students, faculty, staff and alumnae guest speakers discussing contemporary issues related to women in sports, business, academia and more.
A cohort of faculty and staff members met throughout the month of February to develop the programming for March’s Women’s History Month. “We wanted to celebrate the many ways the women of Loyola are leaders and are continuing to blaze trails for future Ramblers of all genders,” says Director of School Culture Mr. Chris Penna.  “We thought a series of panel discussions would highlight a diversity of perspectives and demonstrate the continuity of multi-generational leadership. I could not be more impressed by the conversations of each panel.”

A portion of the guest panelists for each session were Loyola Academy alumnae from the Classes of 1997 to 2011.

“As always—and especially within the Rambler community—it’s great to see women empowering other young women,” notes Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Ashley K. Sanks ’10. Since Loyola Academy went coed in 1994, Sanks explains that the school’s alumnae base is still relatively young. “To have these accomplished young women speak alongside our faculty, staff and students demonstrates the strength and support of our alumni—and alumnae—network. “

These conversation are so valuable for a number of reasons,” adds Penna. “First, the panels serve as a reminder of the many outstanding ways the women of Loyola have led, and continue to lead, this community. Second, it’s amazing to see how our student panelists have inspired our adults as much as the adults have inspired them. And finally, the panels are a great reminder of the multifaceted identities of our students, faculty and alumnae—they are artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, innovators, sisters, mothers and leaders simultaneously.”

We are grateful to the following members of the Loyola community for sharing their past experiences and visions for the future. Together, we initiated important conversations here at Loyola.
