Loyola Celebrates International Night

On Friday, February 22, Loyola hosted International Night, an annual celebration of the unique cultures and traditions that enrich our Loyola community.
Guests at this year’s International Night, or I-Night, enjoyed an array of performances from a number of Loyola’s cultural clubs including:

  • Chinese Club
  • Diversity Club
  • Hispanic Youth Group
  • Slam Poetry Club
  • Asian Youth Group
  • African American Youth Group
  • Step Team
  • Hellenic Group
  • Polish Club
Ramblers and members of the Loyola Academy community gathered in the East Gym to see the vibrant performances which included the Bachata, a traditional fan dance, radio calisthenics, the polka, the Tinikling and more! A Feast of Nations, featuring flavors from around the world, was hosted before the performances.

An anchor of cocurricular life at Loyola Academy has long been our cultural clubs, which provide students with the unique opportunity to share their backgrounds and traditions and explore those of their classmates and friends. For about 200 Ramblers, the cultural clubs at LA become like a second home—a place where they can learn and grow more fully into themselves.

Every year International Night captures several of the many diverse perspectives and traditions that we celebrate at Loyola. For weeks leading up to the event, Ramblers work closely with their club moderators to develop a performance, skit or presentation that represents their cultural heritage.

“I-Night is a great Loyola tradition,” says Director of School Culture Chris Penna. “The students take so much pride in crafting their performances and showcasing their heritage. The entire event is a celebration of our school’s diversity and how our diversity enriches our community.”
