Seniors Recognized for Achievement in French

The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) has recognized recent graduates Louisa Edwards ’18, Brendan Schafer ’18 and Jacqueline Topping ’18 for achievement in their studies of French at Loyola Academy. All three were students of French Teacher Ms. Catherine Kendrigan, who was the 2018 recipient of the Dorothy Ludwig Excellence in Teaching Award for the secondary level.
Both Edwards and Schafer received a 2018 AATF Excellence in French Award. This award is made annually to a student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures whereis is spoken. Recipients must be non-native speakers of French.

Edwards studied French for four years at Loyola. She participated in the National French Week Contest, participated in National French Week and was a member of French Week Honor Society.

Schafer also studied French for four years at Loyola. He participated in the National French Week Contest, participated in National French Week, was a member of the French Club and a French Honor Society Officer.

Topping received a 2018 AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award. This award is made annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures where is spoken. Recipients must have completed at least three years of French study at the time of graduation and be non-native speakers of French.  Topping has completed four years of French study. She participated in the National French Week Contest and was a French Honor Society Officer.

The AATF was founded in 1927 and has as its mission the promotion of the study of French language and French-speaking literatures and cultures at all levels. The organization recognizes the achievements of outstanding students and their teachers to  motivate students to continue their study of French either through a career in teaching or as complement to any other profession.
