Baccalaureate Mass Celebrates the Class of 2018

On Sunday, May 20, senior Ramblers and their families gathered to celebrate the Baccalaureate Mass, held each spring to honor the graduating class.
In his Homily, Loyola Academy President Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, encouraged the Class of 2018 to "...go be women and men for others and set the world on fire."

During his address, Bryan Ruz '18, the 2018 Michael Rebarchak '79 Memorial Award recipient, spoke these words: "In my opinion, I'm not that special. I consider myself a reflection of other really amazing people. I am just a representation of how other people have shaped me." The Rebarchak Award is presented annually to a senior student who has modeled service to the school community. This award honors the memory of Michael Rebarchak, an outstanding member of the Class of 1979, and it recognizes the substantive yet unheralded contribution made to Loyola by a senior student who quietly makes things happen through his or her involvement in and around the school.

Before the liturgy concluded, Fr. McGrath blessed the St. Ignatius medals that are distributed to each year's graduating class—a cherished Loyola tradition: "Gracious God, your saints and holy ones perpetually give you glory...may this holy image of St. Ignatius Loyola be for all who wear it a source of your rich blessings and a gateway to your loving presence."
