College of the Atlantic

At College of the Atlantic, more than 80% of students receive some form of financial aid. The goal is to make it affordable for all students regardless of income. At COA, there is one self-designed major in human ecology available. Students have the flexibility to design their own curriculum that fits their unique interests and needs.

  • 350 students with a 12:1 student to faculty ratio
  • Students are required to design and complete a senior project that serves as a capstone to their human ecology curriculum.
  • Using a trimester schedule, students take three classes per trimester.
  • All students must complete an internship at a workplace in their field of study.
Student Life
  • The Outing Club offers community excursions that include canoeing, camping, hiking, skiing and more.
  • All first-year students are required to live on campus.
  • Cookies and coffee by the fire is a weekly tradition throughout the winter.
  • Tug-of-War/Peace takes place on the final Wednesday of term where everyone partakes in a friendly game of tug-of-war between faculty, staff and students.
