Elmhurst College—Elmhurst, Illinois

College Counselor Mr. Tony Minestra is an alumnus of Elmhurst College, a private four-year college located on a 48-acre arboretum in a beautiful suburb just minutes from Chicago. U.S. News & World Report recently ranked it #20 on the list of Best Regional Universities in the Midwest. With an average class size of 18 students, 60 majors and 15 pre-professional programs—including pre-med and pre-law—it's easy to see why Elmhurst College attracts ambitious, motivated and talented students from diverse backgrounds.
Fun Facts about Elmhurst:
  1. Famous alumni include: Reinhold Niebuhr, renowned Christian Theologian and author of the Serenity Prayer; Brett Eldridge, award winning and chart topping country music singer and producer; Terri Hemmert, legendary WXRT radio DJ and "Breakfast with the Beatles" host and first female drive time host for a rock music station in the Chicago market.
  2. Elmhurst College is founded in the United Church of Christ. The UCC was in the forefront of the anti-slavery movement and the Civil Rights movement. More recently, the church was the first historically white denomination to ordain an African American, a woman and an openly gay man, and it was the first Christian church to affirm the right of same-gender couples to marry.
  3. Elmhurst College's 48-acre campus is a nationally recognized Arboretum. The arboretum boasts nearly 900 trees and numerous varieties of shrubs and perennials, including several exotic specimens in addition to campus favorites like magnolias, redbuds and maples. The Arboretum has won Level II Accreditation from the Morton Register of Arboreta and Tree Campus USA® designation from the Arbor Day Foundation. The campus also boasts a prairie garden featuring 75 species of native plant life.
  4. Elmhurst College's art collection is among the best collegiate collections in the nation. Highlighting Chicago Imagist and Abstractionist art, the on-campus professional collection comprises more than 150 works of art, many award-winning.
