University of Scranton—Scranton, Pennsylvania

College Counselor Ms. Nancy Menendez attended this Catholic and Jesuit University in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains region. With a student body of only 3,729 undergraduates, Scranton boasts a 12:1 student to faculty ratio and 68 bachelor's degree programs in three Colleges: The College of Arts and Sciences, The Kania School of Management and The Panuska College of Professional Studies. And, the University of Scranton ranked among the healthiest colleges in the United States, according to a September 2016 listing posted on Greatist.com, an online source for health and fitness information.

  1. The University of Scranton is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the United States and one of two Jesuit universities in Pennsylvania.
  2. The University has earned accreditation from 16 different accrediting agencies, including recognition by the nation's most prestigious bodies in the fields of business and management, nursing, computer science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chemistry and counseling.
  3. In recent years, the University has invested more than $260 million in campus improvements.
  4. Princeton Review recently bestowed the following recognition upon the University of Scranton: “Best Science Labs" (No. 4), "Best Campus Food" (No. 11), "Best College Dorms" (No. 17) and "Students Most Engaged in Community Service" (No. 20).
  5. Scranton is the home for the AAA Yankees farm system. The city is also home to the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company featured in the TV show The Office.
    Becoming a Scranton Royal means participating in:
    • Generous financial aid packages. 97% of first-year students who were enrolled for the fall semester and applied for financial aid were offered funding from university scholarships and need-based grants. The average aid package for first-year students in 2018–19, exclusive of parent loans, was $32,700.
    • State of the art science classes in the new Loyola Science Center, which added 22 class and seminar rooms and 34 laboratories to campus.
    • A unique Honors Program and the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts (SJLA) Program in which select students complete courses in moral philosophy, ethics, theology and the humanities in addition to their normal course load.

    • Over 30 international and national honor societies.
