Fordham University—Bronx, New York

Loyola's very own College Counseling Department Chair Mr. Mark Porcaro is a proud alumnus of Fordham, a mid-size university with an undergraduate population of approximately 9,000 students. Along with stellar academics and spirited NCAA Division 1 athletics, Fordham is the only Jesuit university in New York City and the oldest Catholic university in the northeastern U.S.—founded in 1841!
Fun Facts about Fordham:
  1. Walking around campus, you might be as inspired as one of literature's greatest poets! Fordham's Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx is down the road from Edgar Allen Poe's cottage. It is believed that his famous poem "The Bells" was written about the bells heard from the University as Poe would often visit campus.
  2. The Rose Hill Campus is in the Little Italy Section of the Bronx, which has some of the highest rated restaurants in all of NYC.
  3. Famous Fordham alumni include Denzel Washington, Vince Lombardi, Alan Alda, Vin Scully, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Clarkson and Lana Del Rey.
  4. Lights! Camera! Action! The Exorcist, Wall Street 2, Love Story and A Beautiful Mind were all filmed on campus.
  5. Famed architect I. M. Pei, who designed the Louvre in Paris, designed the 2014 renovation of the Lincoln Center Campus in Manhattan, which is home to Fordham Law School.
Becoming a Fordham Ram means participating in:
  • Over 130 clubs and organizations for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • A culture of campus ministry that offers programming for more than 15 faith traditions.
  • "Under the Tent," a fun spring dance held the weekend before final exams.
  • Community service! Fordham students rack up an impressive 1 million hours of community service each year.
