  • Faith and Culture in Conversation Speaker Series: Surprised by God

In the middle of this winter's darkness and social distance, we might find it hard to recognize God in our midst. But our next guest speaker will argue that God is always present in our lives and refining our skills of reflection is one critical way to attune our hearts to God’s presence. In 2014, Pope Francis said, "Our God is a God of surprises..." With this in mind, Christina Zaker will guide us to reflect on God's movement in our lives. Drawing from the wisdom of the parables, she will encourage us to recognize God's surprising nearness, explore what that nearness means and what it demands of us as Christians. Our evening together will include time for conversation, reflection and shared wisdom that encourages each of us to ask, as Pope Francis suggests, "Am I open to a God of Surprises?" More information is available here.

    Ash Wednesday Mass

Ash Wednesday falls on an on campus day for students with last names L–Z. Fr. McGrath SJ will celebrate Mass before school at 7:10 a.m. in the Chapel. Students, faculty and staff who are in the building are invited to join us—space is limited. At the conclusion of Mass, adult and student ministers will be on hand to distribute ashes in the Main Lobby and the Piazza from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.. Ashes will also be distributed during the first 15 minutes of each lunch period in the Chapel. Due to COVID-19, we are following the rubrics provided by the Vatican. Ashes will be sprinkled on each person's head. The formula found in the Roman Missal— "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" or "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return"—will not be spoken.

Students who are not in the building on Ash Wednesday are encouraged to receive ashes at their local parishes.
