Dear Rambler Community,

We look forward to our return to in-person learning on Tuesday, September 8. To help facilitate a healthy and safe return, we have reevaluated our hybrid schedule and made improvements to both the in-person and remote learning components. It is important to note that the amount of in-person instruction remains the same for all students.

Our safety efforts since the first day of orientation on August 13 have proven effective. We are confident in our preparations and procedures. In order to improve these measures, we believe it is important that we reduce the number of students in each classroom. This decision will de-densify classrooms and minimize the need for contact tracing, which proved to be a slow and cumbersome process.

Loyola is a large community, and we do not operate the school in a bubble. We are not naive to the fact that additional positive COVID-19 cases will arise. Therefore, starting on Tuesday, September 8, the following changes will go into effect to help mitigate these instances:
  • Each grade level will be divided in half alphabetically by last name (A-K and L-Z) and report to campus on a rotating schedule as outlined below. This will decrease class size allowing for six feet of distance between students. Also, the number of students free during each lunch period will be decreased.
  • The hybrid bell schedule will change to 50 minute class periods, as we added a ten minute passing period. This will give students a better transition between classes, whether remote or in-person, and allow teachers more time to clean and sanitize classrooms.
  • The RAMBLE cycle schedule remains in effect, and Tuesday, September 8, will be an R day. Freshmen and juniors with the last names starting with A-K will report to campus for in-person instruction; all other students will learn remotely.

A safe return to school depends upon the personal responsibility and community accountability of us all. There is nothing more fundamental to our faith than the call to love one another. Let’s work to manifest that love in the actions we take to be safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19. What you do outside of the school building matters greatly to the health and well-being of the entire Loyola community. We all know that in-person learning is a much richer and beneficial experience for students. And we all want to be on campus, but this will not work if all of us are not vigilant at all times about these simple but incredibly important efforts.

For information on health and safety procedures, please visit our COVID-19 web page and learn more about our additional mitigation efforts. If you have any questions, please contact us at covid.information@loy.org.

Sincerely,
Charlie Heintz
