Communications Update #5 - sent 3/13/2020, 12:10 p.m.

By:
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

As we continue to exercise prudence and caution regarding COVID-19, we have made the decision to cancel all classes and school-sponsored events for Loyola Academy effective immediately. Future updates will be shared on the Coronavirus Information web page. Our current plan is to reopen on Monday, March 30.

This decision comes as the result of the rapidly increasing pace and fluidity of this situation and our own health and safety precautions. It is important to reiterate that at this time, no one in our community has been diagnosed with or has symptoms of COVID-19. This outbreak invites us to look not only at our students' needs, but also to the safety and health of the wider community, especially the elderly and those who may be physically compromised and susceptible to this virus.

The building will be open today, March 13, from noon until 3:30 p.m. for students to retrieve whatever items they need. They are required to enter and exit through Door 1. After 3:30 p.m. today the building will be closed to students.

We will initiate our E-Learning protocol starting on Monday, March 16, which is an L day in our RAMBLE cycle. Teachers will post academic expectations by 9:00 a.m. each school day. Students and parents will receive a daily email reminder with E-Learning expectations.

Effective immediately, all sports practices, team gatherings, competitions, performances, clubs, class activities and other events are canceled until school reopens. Moderators and coaches will not be allowed to hold practices or other gatherings off-site. We discourage students from organizing their own gatherings.

We will continue to prioritize, above all, the health and safety of the Loyola community. Thank you for working with us as we navigate this evolving situation that impacts all facets of life and our entire community. As we move forward, we pray for perspective and calm, reminding ourselves that God is with us. Informed by our faith, we strive to be thoughtful discerners, sifting through the noise and fears of our times, always leading with love and compassion.
