A Tradition of Service

In 1935, Loyola Academy established Torch Club, a student organization dedicated to promoting school spirit and serving the Academy community. Founded by Mr. Ray Mooney and Rev. Kay Mooney, SJ, the club brought together students who were willing to give their time and talents in support of school activities and events. From its earliest days, Torch Club embodied the Jesuit belief that leadership begins with service to others.

Throughout Loyola's history, Torch Club members have played an important role in fostering community and school pride. Whether assisting with events, welcoming guests, supporting traditions, or helping behind the scenes, members have consistently demonstrated a willingness to serve wherever they are needed. Their contributions, though often quiet and behind the scenes, have helped strengthen the spirit and culture of Loyola Academy for generations.

Today, Torch Club remains one of Loyola Academy's longest-standing student organizations. Dedicated to service to the school, its members continue to fulfill roles that promote school spirit, support the Loyola community, and set an example of generosity and commitment. Nearly ninety years after its founding, Torch Club continues to carry forward a tradition of leadership through service that remains central to the Rambler experience.
