You won't want to miss this tour of Chicago's spectacular new Riverwalk, an ambitious $140 million project that has spanned two decades and three mayoral administrations.
Mayor Daley oversaw the beginnings of the riverwalk revitalization in 2001 with the reconstruction of Wacker Drive. In 2012, Mayor Emanuel accelerated the project to achieve his vision of transforming the former shipping canal into an inviting attraction and weaving the life of the river into the urban fabric of the city.

Four years later, that vision became a reality with the expansion of the riverwalk from Lake Street to State Street. Since its dedication in 2016, this award-winning promenade through the heart of Chicago has become a recreational mecca for city residents and visitors from around the world.

In May 2019, four days before passing the mayoral torch to Lori Lightfoot, Emanuel dedicated the newly renovated riverwalk east of State Street. With this $12 million investment—still a work in progress under Mayor Lightfoot's administration—the Chicago Riverwalk is now a continuous, 1.25-mile walking path that stretches from Lake Street to the lakefront.

After a brief self-guided tour of the Chicago Architecture Center, we'll head over to the riverwalk. As we stroll along this lush linear park, you'll get a firsthand look at the riverwalk's many attractions and learn about the river’s evolution from a polluted industrial waterway into a vibrant part of the city's cultural landscape.

After our tour, we'll relax and refuel while enjoying breathtaking views of the city, the river and the Ogden Slip in the private Chicago River Room at Carson's River East near Navy Pier.
