An Important Message from Father McGrath

The following email was sent to the Rambler Community on February 17, 2021, from Fr. McGrath regarding his decision to step down as president of Loyola Academy beginning with the 2022–2023 school year.
Dear Rambler Community,

As you know, Jesuits seek to be discerning companions of Jesus who are available for the mission. St. Ignatius never imagined his Jesuits staying in one place for too long. The mission is ever changing and we pray to be free enough to go where God and our Jesuit superiors send us. It is in this context that I write to share with you that, with the approval of my Jesuit provincial, I have made the decision that next year will be my last as president of Loyola Academy. I will conclude my service at the end of the 2021–2022 school year.

It has been a great privilege to lead Loyola. This community is very special to me and I am reminded daily of the vibrancy of our shared Jesuit, Catholic mission. I have loved being part of Loyola and I am grateful to God for the opportunity to serve with you all.

It is a sign of a healthy organization when leadership transitions can be done smoothly and with real discernment. Loyola Academy is as strong and vibrant as it has ever been. Financially, we are well-positioned to face the challenges of the days ahead. Our Second Century of Excellence Strategic Plan has allowed us to enhance the Jesuit educational experience of our students in profound ways. Our focused efforts to be a vibrant Jesuit faith and education center have impacted the lives of students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and friends in creative and effective ways that would make St. Ignatius Loyola proud. Our faculty is first-rate and our facilities and programs are among the best in the country. Our shared pursuit of the magis has allowed us to imagine new ways to respond to the call of Christ. Thanks be to God for all that we have been for one another in these years together!

In the very near future, our board of trustees will launch the search process for my successor. Nancy Paridy, Chair of the Board, will oversee the process. I am certain that she and the board will conduct a process that involves input from the many constituencies of the school community including faculty, staff, parents and alumni.

I look forward to the work still to be done in the days ahead.

Ad majorem Dei gloriam!

Sincerely,
Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ
President
