Matthew Mlope '28

For Matthew Mlope ’28, Loyola Academy is a place where students are encouraged to grow by stepping beyond their comfort zones and embracing new opportunities. A Bowman Scholar, Dumbach Scholar, Bellarmine Scholar, National Honor Society member, Insignis participant, and active member of Track and Field, Philosophy Club, Photography Club, and DICE, Matthew has taken full advantage of the many ways Loyola challenges students to learn, lead, and discover their gifts. Whether spending time in Campus Ministry, exploring new ideas in AP Art History, or building relationships with faculty mentors, he has found a community that is both supportive and inspiring.

Matthew credits Loyola’s teachers and staff with helping him discern who he is becoming and how he can make a positive impact on the world. Encouraged by mentors such as Mr. Metellus and Mrs. Bennett, he has learned the value of speaking up, asking questions, and pursuing opportunities that foster growth. Guided by Loyola’s call to be a person for others, Matthew strives to meet others with empathy, dignity, and respect. As he looks ahead to the opportunities of his junior and senior years, he remains excited to deepen his leadership, expand his horizons, and continue becoming the best version of himself.
