Kevin Mistrik, Faculty

For nearly four decades, Kevin Mistrik has dedicated himself to forming young people who will make a positive difference in the world. Since joining Loyola Academy in 1987, he has become known not only for his passion for teaching, but for the genuine care and encouragement he offers students each day. Early in his Loyola journey, legendary educator Jim Serpe shared advice that would shape Kevin’s vocation: “Love the students. If you love the students you are going to be a successful teacher.” That philosophy continues to guide him today and reflects Loyola Academy’s Jesuit mission of forming women and men for others.

For Kevin, the most meaningful part of teaching is helping students know they are cared for. “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care,” he says. Over the years, he has witnessed Loyola’s enduring commitment to educating students who will serve the greater good, while also creating unforgettable experiences beyond the classroom. Among his favorite memories is helping lead the Loyola House project in partnership with Christian Outreach to the Appalachian People (C.O.A.P.), where students, faculty, and community members worked together to build a home for a family in Kentucky. Whether teaching, mentoring, traveling to historic sites, or cheering on his lifelong friends at baseball stadiums across the country, Kevin embodies the spirit of lifelong learning, gratitude, and service that defines Loyola Academy.
