Activity - Boys Cross Country
Cross Country is a no-cut fall sport of distance running. Athletes compete in 3 mile races. No experience is necessary to join the team but athletes are expected to be at every practice. Most freshmen are new to the sport yet improve greatly throughout the season. Every athlete competes in each race.

Two XC Alums Compete at NCAA Championships

Nico Composto (LA class of 2010, pictured left) earned All-American honors by placing 30th at the NCAA Division 1 National Cross Country Championship.  Nico led Columbia University to a 25th place team finish.

Todd Ford (LA class of 2012) placed 89th at the NCAA Division III National Championship and helped Williams College earn a 5th place finish.

One year after finishing 11th in Sectional, the varsity team returned to the state meet and placed 12th out of 26 teams.  Junior Christian Swenson led the team with a 28th place finish, just 3 spots and 3 seconds out of the top 25 and All-State honors. Juniors Jack Carroll and Spencer Kelly were Loyola's next two finishers, placing 75th and 78th respectively.  Seniors Matt Randolph (110th) and Teddy Brombach (113th) were the team's final scorers and were followed by freshman Paolo Tiongson (164th) and senior Matt Scherer (180th).  Congratulations to the team on a great season!

The Varsity team punched their ticket to the State Championship race by placing fourth at the Lake Park Sectional. This will be Loyola's ninth state appearance overall, and seventh appearance in the past nine years. Junior Jack Carroll led the team with a seventh place finish, earning All-Sectional honors.  Spencer Kelly finished in twentieth, and was followed by Christian Swenson (32nd), Matt Randolph (37th), Teddy Brombach (48th), Matt Scherer (54th), and Paolo Tiongson (65th).

The Varsity team placed 2nd out of 10 teams at the Niles West Regional to advance to next weekend's IHSA Sectional meet at Lake Park.  Jack Carroll led the team with a 3rd place finish.  Following closely behind were Christian Swenson (5th), Teddy Brombach (8th), Spencer Kelly (11th), Matt Randolph (14th), Matt Scherer (16th), and Michael Banks (20th).

The varsity team won the Chicago Catholic League Championship on Saturday at Tutlehead Lake in Palos Heights by placing five runners in the top twelve.  Christian Swenson led the team with a second place finish.  In addition to Christian, three other Ramblers earned first team All-Catholic League honors: Spencer Kelly (5th), Teddy Brombach (6th), and Jack Carroll (9th).  Matt Randolph (12th), Matt Scherer (17th), and freshman Paolo Tiongson (18th) earned second team honors.

Paced by Patrick Reilly-Hayward (2nd) and Danny Pasco (3rd), the sophomore team won the Chicago Catholic League Championship.  Top 20 placers include Scott Berens (9th), Alex Composto (11th), Jack Klemp (15th), Andrew Mullins (17th), and James Biery (20th). Congratulations to all of the sophomores on an outstanding season!

Led by individual champion Andrew Niewiarowski, runner-up Matthew Kadus, and third place finisher Devin de Hueck, the freshman team won the Chicago Catholic League Championship.  William Shortal placed sixth and Johnnie O'Malley twentieth to secure the team victory.  Personal best times were recorded by numerous freshman runners. Congratulations to the freshmen on an outstanding season!

Though not an official team race, the open runners took five of the top nine places to finish in first place.  Juniors Michael Banks (1st) and David Kelley (2nd) grabbed the top two spots and were followed by Gavin Krueger (4th), Zach Gruber (5th), and Charlie Eisinger (9th).

Nico Composto '10 featured in Sports Illustrated

Congratulations to Loyola Cross Country alum Nico Composto, who is featured in the October 21st issue of Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd.  Nico led the Columbia cross country team to the team title at the Notre Dame Invitational.  The Lions are currently ranked #8 in the nation.

The Varsity Team placed first out of forty teams at the Niles West Invitational. Christian Swenson (4th), Matt Randolph (6th), and Spencer Kelly (11th) led the team and were followed by Jack Carroll (18th), Teddy Brombach (28th), and freshman Paolo Tiongson (29th). 

The Sophomore Team placed fifth out of eighteen teams while the Freshman Team placed twelfth out of nineteen teams.

The Freshman Team won the Palatine Invitational by one point over York by placing four runners in the top thirty. Paolo Tiongson finished second overall and was joined in the top ten by Matthew Kadus (7th) and Andrew Niewiarowski (8th). Devin de Hueck (12th) and William Shortal (30th) rounded out the top five.  Congratulations to the freshmen on their strong performance.  The Varsity Team placed eleventh out of thirty teams, while the Sophomore Team placed twentieth.

The Varsity Boys placed 6th out of 63 teams at the Richard Spring Invitational hosted by Peoria Notre Dame High School.  Christian Swenson (35th), Matt Randolph (37th), and Spencer Kelly (41st) led the team and were followed closely by Jack Carroll (64th) and Teddy Brombach (68th). 

The Freshman-Sophomore Team placed 23rd out of 48 teams.  Patrick Reilly-Hayward was the team's top finisher, placing 56th overall. 

David Kelley paced Loyola in the Open race.

The Varsity Team won the Gordon Tech Invitational, placing 6 athletes in the top 7 overall.  Matt Randolph won the individual title and was followed closely by Christian Swenson (2nd), Spencer Kelly (3rd), Teddy Brombach (4th), Jack Carroll (5th), and Matthew Scherer (7th). Michael Banks, running in his first varsity race, finished in 16th place.

The Freshman-Sophomore Team won the Gordon Tech Invite by placing five runners in the top thirteen spots. Freshmen Paolo Tiongson and Matthew Kadus led the team with a one-two finish. Freshman Andrew Niewiarowski placed fourth overall followed closely by sophomore Patrick Reilly-Hayward in fifth place. Sophomore Daniel Pasco finished in thirteenth place to complete Loyola's team score.  Freshman William Shortal finished in twenty-sixth place while sophomore James Biery placed forty-sixth.
