Parents - Parents For Others
Introduction
For the past 22 years, the Parents for Others program has provided significant assistance to the faculty and students of Loyola Academy. Participating parents have volunteered
to take the place of teachers who are engaged in retreats, professional workshops, and other absences. Parents involved in the program prefect classes, take attendance and supervise academic
activities. This has proven to be a fun way for parents to have a bird’s eye view of daily life at Loyola. If you are new to Loyola Academy and find substituting for the teachers, to be
somewhat of a daunting task, we do have a list of Frequently Asked Questions that might be of
some help to you in determining whether you would like to be a part of this program.
Our ultimate goal is to have parents volunteer for each day we have planned (or emergency) faculty absences. In order to accomplish this goal, we have created three options by which parents can volunteer:
During retreats when more than one teacher will be out.
On specific dates that a parent is available.
On a daily/last minute basis. (Parents are free to call the substitution coordinator any morning they find they are suddenly free. Depending on teacher absences due to emergencies
we may be able devise a schedule that works for any volunteer parent for that particular day.)
Please keep in mind that, given the size of our school. There could be more than one teacher out on any given date. There will be many dates throughout the school year when your assistance would be appreciated but we are happy to have you as a Parent For Others even if you can only volunteer one day throughout the whole school year. You do not have to feel that it is a requirement to commit to a host of dates, to be a part of the program. We are delighted to have you just one day or as many as you wish. Some parents actually prefer having their children’s classes and some would rather not. The choice is yours. Listed below are several dates when we might need volunteers.
If you are interested in participating in this volunteer program, please contact Kathy Fitzgerald, Faculty Substitution Coordinator: email: kfitzgerald@loy.org , office: 847.920.2403, cell: 847.612.2094 or return the Parents For Others Sign
Up Form to the Principal’s Office. The Archdiocese of Chicago requires all school volunteers to attend a Virtus Training session and have a criminal background check on file. Many of you have already done this here at Loyola or in your parishes. If not, Loyola will take care of this for you. Thank you for considering this important request.
