What it means to be Jesuit...
The Society of Jesus (The Jesuits) is a Catholic religious community that was founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. The spirituality of Ignatius and the Jesuits seeks to experience God in all things and is the foundational worldview of all Jesuit works. Ignatius saw the world as good and all creation as a gift from God. Our task is to co-labor with God in this world and give greater glory to God in the ways we use our gifts and talents to create a more just world.
In 1548 the first Jesuit secondary school was opened and with it a tradition of excellence was born that is still vibrant and growing. Loyola Academy is one of 48 Jesuit high schools in the United States and hundreds more throughout the world.
